The key person is an important role model for the child who they can relate to and rely on. The key person observes your child to identify how they learn through their play, their next aspect of development, what their interests are and whether there is any cause for concern or need for extra support.
The course begins by looking at the role and the requirements that must be fulfilled before shifting focus to the importance of developing a relationship-based approach to working with children.
It covers important topics and practical elements of the key person role, including:

• why a key person is important
• induction and settling-in
• record keeping
• the key person as teacher
• supporting the home learning environment
• discussing your key children during supervision
• developing attachments.
